picklechess privacy policy

Last updated: June 6, 2026

picklechess is an online board game. This policy explains the limited information the app handles to run rooms, games, spectators, matchmaking, and simple ranked accounts.

What is not collected

picklechess does not collect names, payment information, chat messages, ad identifiers, or analytics profiles. Ranked accounts use an email address, a username, and one-time email codes instead of passwords.

Cookies and browser storage

picklechess does not set cookies. The app uses browser local storage for private room rejoin tokens, parked bot game references, the last active room code, ranked account session tokens, and UI preferences such as sound and coordinates. Rejoin and session tokens act like access keys, so avoid sharing browser profiles with people you do not want controlling your seat or account.

Server data

When database persistence is enabled, the server stores room codes, hashed rejoin tokens, game state, game-event history, bot move audit flags, match type, account email addresses, usernames, PvP and bot ELO ratings, bot level ratings, hashed one-time login codes, hashed account session tokens, and connection/activity timestamps. It does not store plaintext rejoin tokens, plaintext login codes, plaintext session tokens, passwords, or chat content.

Technical information

Like most online services, the app and its hosting provider may process technical information from web requests and socket connections, such as IP address, browser details, request times, and error or security logs. This information is used to operate, secure, debug, and protect the service.

Matchmaking and shared games

Casual matchmaking pairs two connected sockets into an anonymous game. Ranked matchmaking pairs signed-in accounts by PvP ELO and adjusts both ratings when the game ends, without sharing either account's username in the game data. Ranked bot games use a separate bot ELO for the player and adjust the selected bot level's rating when the game is rateable. Waiting queues are kept in server memory and are cleared when a player is matched, cancels, disconnects, or the service restarts. Shared game links, room codes, and rejoin tokens may let other people view, join, or control a game if you share them.

Sharing and external links

picklechess does not sell personal information or share it for advertising. Email login codes are sent through Resend. The site may also link to external services, such as Discord, which are governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

Your choices

Use your browser settings to clear local storage for this site. Clearing local storage removes saved rejoin tokens, account session tokens, the last active room code, and UI preferences from that browser, but it does not delete server-side account or game records that may already exist.

Children

picklechess is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

This policy may be updated as the app changes. The date above will show when the latest version was posted.
